Why this sector is different
A shop with a product feed advertises differently from a service business. Google Shopping and Performance Max build the advert from the products in your Merchant Center account: the photograph, the title, the price. The person searching compares pictures before they read a word.
That makes the product image the advert. Stock changes every season, so the images in the feed need replacing every season too, and an account running on old or weak product photographs pays full price for adverts that shoppers scroll past.
The product image rules change on 31 January 2027
From 31 January 2027, Google asks for every product image to be at least 500 × 500 pixels, and recommends 1500 × 1500 or larger. Today the minimum is 100 × 100, or 250 × 250 for clothing, so an older catalogue may have many images under the new line. Google has been showing warnings on those images since July 2026.
The same page of rules covers file types, what may not cover the product, how images made with generative AI must be labelled, and how many extra and lifestyle images a product can carry. We check your feed against all of it.
Your photographs are the advert
Each product can carry up to ten extra images and up to five lifestyle images: the piece worn, styled, or shown where it belongs. Many shops send Google the product shot and nothing else. We make the lifestyle images from the photographs you already have, in the shapes Google wants, and refresh them as the stock changes.
Where an image is made with generative AI, it carries the label Google requires.
What gets measured
Sales and the return on advertising spend, by product range, from the orders in your shop — a new-season dress and a basic tee are not the same product and never appear in the same number.
Starting from zero
If your shop sells through its own website and has never advertised on Google, a free twenty-minute search check shows how many people search for what you sell each month, what a click costs, and what a month would have to look like to be worth it. If the answer is that it is not worth it, you keep that answer.
Your Google Ads and Merchant Center accounts are in your name, and your advertising budget is paid by you directly to Google.
Pricing
£495 setup, then £395 a month, or £695 a month with monthly creative. Founding prices for the first three clients; £750, £595 and £995 after that. You pay Google directly and the accounts stay in your shop’s name.
Product images for Google: £1,495, one-off, for up to 100 products. Every product image checked against Google’s rules, the failing images fixed, and the new image links added to your product feed in Merchant Center. Larger catalogues are quoted separately.
